The final and most substantial piece is a new 50-minute documentary "Inside High Noon, narrated by Frank Langella. This awesome program dissects the cultural resonance of the picture--including negative reactions and alternate interpretations--and its tightly designed storytelling, with its step-by-step structuring. Finally, the political troubles and production hiccups just prior to release are touched on. Interviews with historians and admirers (including President Bill Clinton) and many of the offspring who participated in the audio commentary make up the bulk of the feature (sadly, John Ritter had passed before this was made and he did not participate in Cooper-Janis' tribute, where some of this footage was culled from). This means that interviews with actual participants--including Stanley Kramer, Fred Zinnemann, and Lloyd Bridges, as well as rock legend David Crosby, son of cameraman Floyd Crosby, and John Ritter--are left to the twenty-two minute Maltin featurette. Maltin also shows photos from a couple of deleted scenes.

Extras: We are given pretty much all of the same supplements from the 200 Collector's edition - the. occasionally fun, group commentary plus on disc 2 The Making of High Noon featurette (22:09), Behind High Noon (9:47) and the Radio broadcast with Tex Ritter on the Ralph Emery Show (5:35).

What is new is a wonderful 50 minute Inside High Noon featurette by Moda Entertainment. It's a nice overview with input from many - usually relations of those involved in the original production - so it has a lot of 'nostalgia' value to it.

“A simple little Western,” Frank Langella intones in the narration to the documentary “Inside ‘High Noon,’ ” one of the bonus features on the new “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” of the 1952 classic, out Tuesday.

And, indeed, “High Noon” does seem to be a Western stripped down to its most basic elements: the reluctant lawman, ready to leave town with his bride, called back for one last showdown with a group of outlaws as his townspeople desert him. The film even looks basic, with minimal scenery, terse dialogue and black-and-white photography.

But, as the documentary notes with deliberate irony, “High Noon” isn’t “a simple little Western.” There’s a reason the film has become one of the all-time classics, its very title a synonym for a moment of decision: There’s more than meets the eye.

The 2-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition of High Noon provides a superb 50-minute 2006 documentary titled "Inside High Noon." This documentary brings together fact and opinion that can help the interested viewer better appreciate the movie. Although considered a classic today, when initially released it was negatively reviewed by some distinguished critics, including Andrew Sarris, Manny Farber and François Truffaut. The documentary helps us get historical perspective by noting that at the time High Noon was made, the Cold War, Joseph McCarthy and the Hollywood Blacklist loomed large on the American political landscape. Screenwriter Carl Foreman was blacklisted, and cinematographer Floyd Crosby and actor Lloyd Bridges (played the deputy marshal) couldn't get studio work for years
